Juventus manager Max Allegri has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo will be rested for at least one league game following the weekend clash against AS Roma. The Portugal international has played for the entire 90 minutes in all but one league game this campaign and Allegri remains wary of the veteran suffering a potential burnout.
Speaking ahead of the Roma game, Allegri confirmed that the Portuguese superstar would feature for the weekend although he should rested against one of Atalanta or Sampdoria before the mid-season break kicks off, he said: “Ronaldo plays tomorrow, and he'll then miss one of the next two games.”
Ronaldo had made a slow beginning to his Bianconeri career with no goals from the opening three matches but he has since returned to his old self with 12 goals and seven assists coming from the next 18 games. As such, the Bianconeri have remained dominant in the league where they already have an eight-point advantage over second-placed Napoli and they have the chance to either maintain or extend the gap when they entertain AS Roma this weekend.
Meanwhile, “their European campaign has been a mixed one with a couple of defeats to Manchester United“ and Young Boys during the group phase but they still managed to progress from their group with the top spot. Next up, they are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid in a double-legged tie and the match should pose them a huge challenge to them, given their “opponents are equally efficient“ when it comes to the defensive side of the game.
Elsewhere, there has recently been positive news on the team front with Alex Sandro penning a new long-term contract with the club. The Brazil international had been in a contract standoff with the Bianconeri over the past year but he has eventually signed an extension which should end the repeated speculation regarding his future.
