StoryIs Rashford the New Ronaldo?

When it comes to Manchester United and superstar players, the list is certainly an illustrious one. Whether it be the likes of George Best and Denis Law from yesteryear or Cristiano Ronaldo at the start of this century, Old Trafford has been the home to many a great over the past few decades.

However, since the departure of Ronaldo to Spanish giants Real Madrid back in 2009, it could be argued that the club have not really had the same calibre of player pull on their world famous red and black colours.

StoryOle Gunnar Solskjaer compares Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United’s caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Marcus Rashford has the potential in himself to reach the heights of former favourite Cristiano Ronaldo. The England international has improved on his goalscoring ratio since the appointment of Ole in December and he most recently bagged the winning penalty in the shock 3-1 win which ousted Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League.

Speaking to MUTV, Ole acknowledged that Rashford has the tendency to score goals but he still needs to improve on his gameplay within the box where Ronaldo has excelled over the course of his career, he said: “Rashy’s goals are sometimes worldies and he does have a sensational strike of the ball, but you see the improvement and maturity and change in Cristiano’s goals from when he was young to now. He [Ronaldo] scores more from inside the box and that’s what Rashy has to do - improve his tap-ins, movement in the box, staying in the box, getting away from the centre-backs a few more times.”

StoryMax Allegri speaks positively about Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance despite Atletico defeat

Juventus head coach Max Allegri has spoken positively regarding the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo despite the attacker struggling to make an impression on his return to the Spanish capital. The Bianconeri recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 and the match witnessed Ronaldo have the single shot on target while contributing towards the deflected goal by Diego Godin.

Despite this, Allegri was impressed with the performance of the Portugal international on the night and he suggested that the entire team were responsible for the mediocre showing during the second period, he said: "Ronaldo played a good game. He is confident with these kinds of matches. He was not bad at all. We missed all the second half as a team. And this match will be useful looking forward to the second leg."

StoryOle Gunnar Solskjaer urges Anthony Martial to take Cristiano Ronaldo’s lead

Despite this, he has recently penned a fresh five-year contract with United and speaking shortly afterwards, Solskjaer said that Martial has the potential to reach the heights of Ronaldo, should he put the effort on and off the field, he said: “Well, of course that’s up to any player: how you make a decision on how to develop your own career.

“Cristiano was the best. The way he’s changed to now; that’s part of any player – you’ve got to model yourself on someone and you’ve got to have more challenges ahead of you. I speak about my experience at this club [with Ronaldo] and what [Martial] can achieve. I talk about Cristiano’s career, what he’s made, how he’s got there.”

StoryDalic Admits Ronaldo Error

Outspoken Croatic coach Zlatko Dalic has apologeised to Cristiano Ronaldo, admitting that perhaps he was taking it a little too far when he said that he would never want to have the Portuguese 5 time winner of the Ballon D’Or in his side.

Speaking ahead of Croatia’s friendly match against Portugal, Dalic dialled down the rhetoric, and begrudgingly accepte that he might have overstepped the mark – not least because Cristiano Ronaldo’s trophy haul, even in just the last few years, has been vastly greater than any modern player apart from Lionel Messi.

StoryCristiano Ronaldo wants to win trophies with Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo has highlighted his ambition of winning trophies with Juventus during the Globe Soccer awards. The Portugal international was named the Player of the Year at the award ceremony in Dubai after guiding Real Madrid to a third successive Champions League crown during the previous campaign.

When asked about the experience, Ronaldo admitted that it is an honour to receive the accolade after previously been awarded for the Goal of the Year. He added that he has moved on from Los Blancos while revealing the desire to win more trophies with the Bianconeri, he said: “As I said before, it's an honour. Thank you to my family, friends and the staff. It's been a tough year, but I've won many trophies. I'm so glad to win one more award, 2019 is a new year and I want to win trophies with Juventus. My new life is at Juve.”

StoryCristiano Ronaldo to be rested after AS Roma game

Juventus manager Max Allegri has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo will be rested for at least one league game following the weekend clash against AS Roma. The Portugal international has played for the entire 90 minutes in all but one league game this campaign and Allegri remains wary of the veteran suffering a potential burnout.

Speaking ahead of the Roma game, Allegri confirmed that the Portuguese superstar would feature for the weekend although he should rested against one of Atalanta or Sampdoria before the mid-season break kicks off, he said: “Ronaldo plays tomorrow, and he'll then miss one of the next two games.”

StoryWill Ronaldo Feature For Portugal In Nations League?

Portugal were drawn against Switzerland in the semi-finals of the first ever UEFA Nations League competition. The reigning European Champions have a further opportunity to add silverware to their collection - in addition to their Euro 2016 crown - by winning the tournament on home soil in 2019.

Cristiano Ronaldo may not have many further opportunities left to bolster his already illustrious career, but winning another international competition with his team as the host nation would be another hallmark – and another notch on his belt in his legacy battle with Lionel Messi. The 33-year-old was left out of the Portugal squad for the Nations League matches.

StoryPaulo Dybala speaks on the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus

Argentina international Paulo Dybala has praised the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo since he made the switch to Juventus from Real Madrid during the summer. The Portugal international appeared indispensable to the European champions after guiding them to three successive Champions League titles but in a surprise change of events, he made the switch to the Bianconeri on a club-record fee of £100m.

Ronaldo has since quickly adapted to the new surroundings with nine goals from 15 appearances and speaking in an Adidas Copa 19+ event, Dybala highlighted the importance of the Portuguese to the makeup of the team, he quipped: “Ever since Ronaldo arrived, we have been, and we are, really happy together. I think we have been doing well. We have scored really important goals for Juventus together. Cristiano arrived only recently, but we all know the importance that he has on everyone and we knew his style from before. We know how he plays and how he works. Of course, you have to make small changes, but we are happy and we are going to score a lot of goals together.”
