StoryRONALDO TO SIT OUT CARABAO CLASH

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to sit out the Carabao Cup third round clash with West Ham United as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes wholesale changes to his starting line-up.

Solskjaer hinted several changes to his squad for the West Ham game at home during his pre-match presser.

Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has been in good form since returning to Manchester United at the end of last month. Ronaldo has scored four goals in three games but he would likely not add to the tally with Solskjaerprioritisingsquad rotation. Solskjaer wants to give fringe players the chance to impress against the Hammers.

Manchester United manager Solskjaer revealed in his press conference that Jesse Lingard will start the West Ham game after netting the winner against the London team at the weekend. Lingard came off the bench to find the back of the net with a well taken shot as Manchester United secured a 2-1 away win over the Hammers. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the other goal for the Red Devils during the West Ham game but the Portuguese international might not be able add to his tally against the Hammers if Solskjaer opts to rest himcompletely as expected.

Apart from Lingard, Solskjaer also mentioned the trio of Phil Jones, Anthony Elanga and Alex Telles but he didn't say if the three players would be in his starting line-up for the Carabao Cup third round tie billed for the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday night.

Solskjaer revealed that young Swedish attacker Elanga was not happy at being left out of the Manchester United squad for the Premier League trip to West Ham on Sunday. The ex-Red Devils striker also expressed his delight at the return of Phil Jones from injury. England international central defender Jones has not played for Manchester United since January last year due to a serious knee problem.
